Wisdom Teeth Pain and its Treatment

With the advancement of civilization, the quality of food is changing from hard fibrous food to soft cooked food. This is probably one single factor which is responsible for reduction in size of jaws for want of growth stimulus due to jaw exercise.

The age of eruption of the wisdom teeth is between 16-24 years of age. Due to the changing habits of food, the wisdom tooth erupts seldom in their normal position. These chances are very less. In most of the conditions they erupt either out of the arch or remain impacted. The 3rd molar which erupt out of the arch create more and more problems during food chewing and all other functions of the mouth. Cheek bite is a common phenomenon.

A tooth may remain un-erupted or partially erupted in the mouth. Further a partially erupted tooth may be mal positioned in the arch.

An impacted tooth is the one whose normal eruption is impeded in the mouth and it fails to assume its normal position, such a tooth does not gain its position even beyond the chronological eruption date.

It has been observed the size of upper and lower arch are gradually reducing in terms of evolution. The small size fails to accommodate all the teeth in the oral cavity and thus they became impacted. The chances of impacted 3rd molar are more, because these are last to erupt.
