Tooth decay is damage that occurs when germs in your mouth make acids that eat away at a tooth. It can lead to a hole in the tooth, called a cavity. If not treated, tooth decay can cause pain, infection, and tooth loss.

The hard outer layer is called enamel.
The middle layer is called dentin.
The center of the tooth is called the pulp. It contains nerves and blood
The more layers that are affected by decay, the more badly the damage.
Decay can be caused to anyone in any age still more care should give to a certain group of age people.
Children and older people are the most prone, more than half of all children have cavities by the second grade. Older adults are prone to cavities at the root because protective gum tissue often pulls away.
