Misaligned Teeth Types
Malocclusion can present itself in many of the ways. Its classification includes the grouping of malocclusion into simpler and bigger groups. Edward Angle was the first who has introduced the classification for malocclusion & According to this classification malocclusion are in three classes.
*Class I
All the classes are described according to inter arch molar relationship in the mouth. In the Class I type the molar relation is normal i.e. the mesio buccal cusp of the upper first permanent molar falls in the buccal groove of the lower first permanent molar. This is the normal condition but abnormally can be seen like some rotations in the teeth, crowding, spacing and missing teeth.
From the outlook the patient appear normal with the straight side pose and this can be seen by moving the face to one side and then joining the imaginary line between the forehead and to the prominent point on the chin.
*Class II
In this class, the molar relation is different from the sort of class I type as the disto buccal cusp of the first upper permanent molar falls in the buccal groove of the lower first permanent molar. But there are two further classifications for class II which are:
-Class II division 1
You can see the person having this sort of malocclusion by the presence of upper teeth somewhat outwards, upper teeth resting on the lip and this is popularly known as lip trap. You can notice the convex side line which was straight in Class I.
-Class II division 2
The person has somewhat less outward upper teeth as compared to class II div 1 and this has been noticed so as to counterpart the class II Div 1 as there occurs the outward movement of lateral incisors . In this there also occurs trauma to the lower labial gingival tissues by the excessive tipped upper teeth.
You can notice the convex or straight side line in this malocclusion.
*Class III
In this type of malocclusion the relationship of molar is that sort that the mesio buccal cusp of upper first molar falls in the interdentally space between the lower first and second molar.
You can notice the protruding chin in this as a main feature and the side line is also concave when noticed properly. Reason for occurrence of Class III can be developmental that is called true or can be due to some habits of mouth closure and this is called as pseudo class III.
