Chewing on Pencils ?? It’s a bad habit.

Preventive Dentistry

Do you ever chew on your pencil when concentrating on work or studies?

It’s important to catch problems when children are young, because bad oral habits often continue well into adulthood. Like crunching on ice, this habit can cause teeth to chip or crack. Sugarless gum is a better option when you feel the need to chew. It will trigger the flow of saliva, which can make teeth stronger and protect against enamel eating acids.

Don’t Park Your Pencil Between Your Teeth:

Some people have a habit of holding objects  such as pens, pencils, or eyeglasses  between their teeth.  But they might not realize how much pressure they’re placing on their teeth as they bite down on a non-food object. Biting on a pen or a similar object can cause your teeth to shift or even crack. It can also break existing dental work that you have in your mouth.

Your teeth were meant to chew food, not writing utensils. Pencils, pens and other things that do not belong in your mouth can fracture teeth, leading to otherwise unnecessary dental repairs. Besides, you do not know where these items have been, so why would you put them in your mouth? If you feel the need to chew, stick to sugarless gum.

As you can see, misuse of your teeth could cause chips and fractures, resulting in unnecessary dental work. It is not that we do not want to see you in the dental office. Please try to avoid using your teeth, unless it is for biting or chewing food, of course!
